Students passed petitions to qualify the ROHS school proposals for the ballot, according to Kimberly Gogola, a Royal Oak High School social studies teacher.

Students voted inside actual Election Day voting booths courtesy of Royal Oak City Clerk Melanie Halas, who let the high school borrow the booths.

Text of ROHS Proposal A:

  • Royal Oak High School will endeavor to create an advisory group made up of representatives from each class (two per grade) that would meet with an administrator at least twice a month to deal with issues brought up by the student body. A teacher would supervise this group. Possible representatives would be nominated by teachers and then elected by popular vote in each grade. The class advisors would oversee this process. The student advisory board would meet at least twice monthly. Students would meet once on their own with the teacher adviser to discuss potential issues to be brought up to administration. A meeting would then be held with administration on the issues.

October 30th was designated national mock election day in schools by the National Student/Parent Mock Election www.nationalmockelection.org/ coalition.
