Melissa, Royal Oak resident, has some great news on an offer from DTE:
Recently, I went online and completed an energy audit of my home. I went to the web site listed below, completed the audit (which took about 40 minutes), and received a box of free items (five compact fluorescent light bulbs, a faucet aerator that only uses 1.5 gallons per minute, a faucet that only uses 1.5 gallons per minute, a shower head that only uses 1.5 gallons per minute, and a night light). It took about two weeks for the package to arrive with all of these items, but it was well worth it.
Please go to this web site, complete the audit, learn how to save energy and money, and receive some free items to help you out, http://www.dteenergy.com/residentialCustomers/saveEnergy/rebates/homeAudit/resEnergyAudi t.html
Good luck and pass it on! (added 11.10.09)

Recycling Christmas Lights
As you're cleaning up from the holidays and deciding what to do with light strands that no longer light, think about recycling them.
http://www.christmas-light-source.com/Christmas-Lights-Recycling-Program
You do have to pay to mail them to the company, but the lights don't end up in a landfill, the proceeds from the sale of the lights goes to Marine Toys for Tots, and you get a 10% discount from the lighting company. Good karma all the way around!
It's a font that uses less ink for each character...

"Oak-Roots" is a Royal Oak School district-wide group of staff and parents in regard to recycling in schools, the Michigan Green Schools program and other green initiatives.
In an effort to save the cost of printing and the impact on the environment, we are going to send out a PDF copy of the PTSA Newsletter to any interested families. Please email me at mayvillerott@yahoo.com and provide the name and address included on the label sent on your snail mail version.
