Notes From the Director

Well, the A’Cappella Choir is off to Memphis and Nashville, leaving at 8:00 pm Wednesday March 5th.  Here is an overview of their trip.   They will be SINGING at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and in the lobby of the Grand Ole Opry.  RECORDING at the famous Studio B.  They will have TOURS of the famous Gibson Guitar factory, the Nashville School of the Performing Arts and its guitar classes,  Graceland Manor (Elvis's  home),  and  Legendary Sun Studios (where Walk the Line was filmed).   We will be eating at Chappins Barn Theatre (Dinner-theatre show), lunch at Miss Marples (Mystery show - Who Did It!), and line dancing at the Wild Horse Saloon with lunch, and ending the trip with an evening at the Grand Ole Opry.

It is quite a trip!  The students are very excited. It cost approximately $680.  If your son or daughter plans on singing throughout their high school career, it is really worth your effort to fundraise early.  A’Cappella students do the over-night traveling.  Many parents have said, "I wish I started earlier."  The Booster's Group, TEMPO, determines the fundraising activities for the year.   This year they had Innisbrook Wraps, Tag Day, and Grocery Certificates.  They also sold flowers at the concerts.

Next year's groups are being scheduled.  We will hopefully have enough numbers to run all 4 choirs, that's including Women's Ensemble.  Nothing is definite though, until after summer.

Next week is our Spring Concert, which will feature all three choirs and 17 select performances.  There are 17 solos/duets/trios, which are presently going to State Solo and Ensemble Festival on April 5th and 6th. It will be at Walled Lake Central High School this year. Who goes which day and what times have not been confirmed yet.  Our guest clinician for the Spring Concert is Trey Jacobs, from Eastern Michigan University.  He will be evaluating the three choirs on their performances and also these 17 select solos/groups.  Our Spring Concert ticket form is attached.  Our concert is Thursday, March 13th, starting at 7:00 p.m.  Singers need to be dressed in performance clothing and ready to vocalize by 6:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, due to my elementary schedule; I will not be available for the whole evening of Parent/Teacher conferences.  I will be there only from 5 - 6 p.m.  I have an elementary concert that same evening.  Conferences are Wednesday March 19th from 5-8 p.m.  The best way to contact me is by e-mail.  I check it many times a day, and usually get back to you that same day.

Hope to see you at our Spring Concert next week and thank you all again for supporting your children's music program.  Without your support and help, their musical education would not be the same.

President’s Notes

Happy Spring….almost!  As spring draws closer, things get busier.  TEMPO is organizing another TAG day weekend.  We are looking at the end of April.  It is our goal to have an annual spring TAG day.  The proceeds generated in the spring will carry over to the next school year for the TEMPO budget.  Based on feedback from parents, we are pursuing the TAG day fundraiser (as opposed to selling merchandise and candy from a brochure).  Band and Orchestra have an annual Fall TAG day and have been very successful in the past.   It is important for every choir student to participate.   We will need both student and parent help.   Watch future choir emails for more details as they become available.

We are also working on filling the slate for TEMPO officers for the next school year.   The following positions are open:  Grocery Certificate Chairperson, Flower Sale Chairperson, Fundraising Chairperson, Robe Mistress Apprentice and of course, parent representatives for each choir.  Please feel free to contact me for more information (248-435-8925 or cmason3422@comcast.net). The TEMPO board meets periodically throughout the year to plan and support the choir programs.  It is great fun and doesn’t take much time at all!  Elections will be held at the TEMPO General Membership meeting on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 pm.  Mark your calendars today!
