Notes From The Director
It was an exhausting week and weekend, but a very rewarding one! I am finalizing the mid-term exams and presently have 37 students eligible to audition for A’Cappella 2009. This has more than doubled from last year! I am amazed at the fabulous grades this year. There are 22 -- A grades, and 15 -- B grades. There are a few more being finalized even as I write this note.
This past weekend at Solo and Ensemble Festival, Royal Oak really came across as one of the top school districts, vocally. We sent 61 students, making up 32 events. See the results below, in alphabetical order.

All the first division ratings (I) now need to drop one of their songs and choose one new song. They need to pick one of their songs and limit their performance to approximately 2 minutes. They will also be featured in our Pre-State/Pre-Choral Festival Concert on March 13th. This will be approximately an hour long wonderful performance from our students, and some NEW FACES. They were wonderful at the festival this past weekend and you will get to hear their wonderful voices also. I have hired Trey Jacobs, the new head of the choral department of Eastern Michigan University, to be our clinician. He will give each pre-State performer a few comments on what to improve on in paper format only. Then, the choral groups will be performing and he will give his comments to us, on what to improve, in front of the audience. It will be a wonderful night of great choral and solo literature!
Pre-State Performers - you need to choose your second piece of music in TWO WEEKS!
That will give me only one week to finalize everything and it's also the week of Spectrum. Get your second choice in soon! The fees are $25 for soloists and $37 for small ensembles. The dates are April 4th & 5th at Walled Lake Central HS.
The Spectrum Concert is at hand. I will have the final list of all participants by Monday, Jan. 28th. Ticket request form is attached. The tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. This is a night of the best - favoring acoustical instruments, of course. It will be on February 14th at 7:00 PM.
PLEASE REMEMBER - NO APPLAUSE BETWEEN SONGS AT THIS CONCERT. APPLAUSE ONLY WHEN WE BREAK FOR INTERMISSION AND AT THE VERY END.
President’s Notes
It’s not too early to start thinking about the next school year. Many of our dedicated TEMPO parent officers and committee chairs have graduating seniors and won’t be back in the fall. Now is the time to consider stepping up and supporting your student and their choir program. We will have openings for President, Vice-Presidents, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer, to name a few. Please consider this worthwhile volunteer opportunity! You will have the chance to work closely with our director, Debbie Buffa, and a great group of parents. Please contact me if you need more information or have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
