Notes from Mrs. Buffa

  • The District Choral Festival was a wonderful experience for all and we are very excited to have both Women’s Ensemble and A’Cappella eligible to perform at the State Festival on April 25.  We are hoping to have students there and back in time for their after school events and will get that info to you as soon as we hear from the festival coordinator (note to senior parents – Academic Excellence date has been changed to TBD). Congratulations to all choirs – they all performed admirably and I was very pleased over all.  Thank you to those parents that chaperoned...we could not have done it without you!   Here are the results:
    • Royal Oak Singers Performance II Sight Reading I
    • Concert Choir  Performance II  Sight Reading II
    • Women’s Ensemble Performance I Sight Reading I
    • A’Cappella Performance I  Sight Reading 1 (perfect SR score – AMAZING!)
  • Mr. Gilbert Jackson, a respected director and gospel music expert has agreed to do a workshop for the Women’s Ensemble to help them prepare for state festival. Day and time TBD!
  • State Solo/Ensemble festival is this Friday and Saturday. The Chamber Singers, 9 soloists and 2 duets will perform and be tested in sight reading at Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti. Results will be in next months TEMPO newsletter!
  • ROX Concert auditions are the first week of April. The student officers have been working hard to organize this concert and establish a great new tradition! Students are signing up for their auditions and will vote this week on this year’s theme.  ROX Concert is scheduled May 10, 11 and 12 - ticket order forms will be available after the break and presale is strongly recommended - this concert (formerly Pops or Pop) is a favorite for the students as well as the community. We hope to sell out all three shows!   The choir banquet and rehearsal on the 7th are mandatory for all students and rehearsals for small groups w/student accompaniment may be scheduled T, W and or Th as needed.

Choir Banquet/ROX Concert

May 7th is the choir banquet followed by dress rehearsal for the ROX concert.  Attendance is mandatory for the rehearsal and strongly encouraged for the banquet. Dinner will be provided by TEMPO. Details are still being worked out, but it will be a fun way to celebrate the past year as well as introduce the new 2007-2008 choir officers and members of Chamber Singers. Parents of new inductees will be notified so they will have a chance to be present for the announcements! (any parent is welcome to attend, but dinner is provided only for students). Parent Support:  TEMPO will be selling tickets, flowers and concessions for all three shows as well as hosting an afterglow in the cafeteria.  If you are available to help one evening or can do some baking please contact your parent representative and save them a phone call to you!

Choir Officers and Chamber Singers for 2007-2008

The new student officers will be incoming seniors elected by their peers.  Chamber Singers will be selected by audition from students in next years A’Cappella choir and current members will be asked to re-audition.  Auditions will be held after the break. The names of new officers and Chamber Singers will be announced at the choir banquet on May 7th and parents will be notified by Mrs. Buffa ahead of time so they can be there too!

Note to Seniors Parents

Any seniors (without siblings in the choir program) will want to clear out their student’s account before the end of the school year on June 15th.  Forms are available in Mrs. Buffa’s room. Eligible expenses include vocal lessons, solo/ensemble fees, tux shirts or shoes purchased for concert attire and trip expense for NYC. All claims must include documentation and the district will not reimburse sales tax.   Any funds not claimed will revert to the choir’s general fund.  Please contact Mrs. Buffa or Mrs. Christensen with questions.

Summer Scholarships

TEMPO has a fund to help interested students attend summer choir camps and workshops.  Please notify Mrs. Buffa to apply.  The amount of $1000 will be divided by the number of students that qualify, but will not exceed $250. Several students have already shown interest in Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp!
