Alma Mater and Fight Song Lyrics

Please support our wonderful Royal Oak High School Band and Orchestra and the students who give so much of their time and energy to be their best by attending the following:

  • March 4 - All City Band concert, 7pm, Royal Oak High School gym
  • March 24 - All City Orchestra, 7pm Royal Oak High School gym
  • April 16 - Italian Feast, Royal Oak High School cafeteria 5:30-8
  • May 20 - Band and Orchestra concert 6pm at Royal Oak Middle School auditorium
  • May 31 - Memorial Day parade

==== Scheduling =============================

Start thinking now about next year's schedule, and how Band & Orchestra will fit into it. If you have concerns, see your counselor or me. There is almost always a solution to conflicts. I have every reason to believe Marching Band will be offered next year. PLEASE BE SURE TO PUT IT ON YOUR SCHEDULE ON SCHEDULING DAY, February 24. Recruit a friend! Let's continue to grow the excellence!

==== MSBOA Jazz ===========================

Royal Oak will host a State Jazz Festival on April 17. The band will perform that day. We've done this before. I'll need kids all day, and lots of parent help. Last year I simply assigned parents. Many responded favorably, and it made the process MUCH easier. I'm likely to do the same again.

==== Scholarships ===========================

Band Juniors - Richard Perkins Scholarship
Band Seniors - John Borowski Scholarship
Band & Orchestra Seniors intending to be Music Majors - Royal Oak Musical Scholarship
See Mr. Jensen for applications and details.

(added 1.7.10) Band and Orchestra Families,

Happy New Year to all of you. As we look forward to the second half of the school year, the 2nd semester beginning and new performances and music activities, I hope you all have the January Band and Orchestra Booster Meeting on your calendars.

Join us Tues., Jan. 12 in the Band room at 7:00 p.m.

As we didn't have a meeting in Dec. and there are no performances scheduled this month, our Jan. meeting will be a good time to evaluate what we have accomplished so far this year, what we are looking forward to upcoming and how we can even better support our students and program.

Come with suggestions, questions, ideas and enthusiasm. As always, if you need to contact me, please email at kkline3628@aol.com or call my cell at 248-709-0714 or contact any Booster Board Member.

See you on Tues., Karen Kline

Band & Orchestra E-News for the week of 12/7

===================

Great Job to all our instrumental music students. Our concerts this week were wonderful and I have had many positive comments. Thanks to all of you.

===================

Jingle Bell Jazz is Thursday, 12/17 from 6pm-9pm at the Royal Oak Elks Club on 4th St. Tickets are available using the order form being sent home with your student or may be purchased through any Jazz Band member. JBJ promises to be a festive, fun, and delicious way to kick off the Holidays. Included in the $10 ticket price is a delicious appetizer spread and the ability to dance those calories away. We will also offer a silent auction (great gift giving opportunities) and free gift-wrapping (let our students take that chore off your hands).

====================

Auditions for next year's Sym. Band, Sym. Orch. and Wind Ensemble will be coming up after the Holiday break. Next week, audition material will be available. Look for it.

====================

ATTENTION MARCHING BAND DADS! The MB Tower needs to be moved off the practice field before it freezes in place (to have the field ready for spring sports). I need 10 strong dads to meet me next Tuesday 12/15 after school and help carry it off the field. (I have a plan) It shouldn’t take long. (If the plan works!) Please reply back if you can help so I know how many to expect.

====================

Scholarship audition results for Blue Lake are starting to come in, and many are planning to attend. This camp gets my highest recommendation. If you plan to go, please get signed up and send the deposit asap. You can pay the deposit now and adjust the final balance after your scholarship results are final. The camp takes students on a first come, first served basis. (It seems every year we have a few who would like to go, but aren't able because they wait too long to sign up.)

====================

This freezing weather is very bad for our instruments. Please take the following precautions:

  • Don't leave instruments in cars for extended periods of time.
  • Orchestra students NEED humidifiers in their cases.
  • If your instrument does get extremely cold, let it gradually return
    to room temperature before playing.

Thanks,

Band & Orchestra E-News for 10/3

The Orchestra concert on the 29th has been delayed until 7:30p.m. This is to allow the completion of conferences at the Middle School, and ease parking congestion.

==============================

We both want to offer our continued thanks to our incredibly supportive Boosters. Please read the important info below, and consider getting involved. "Many hands make light work."

From Booster President Karen Kline

Help needed: we need help in the following areas.

Marching Band members and parents...volunteer to work a shift or two at the pancake b'fast. Email Ed Ura at EdmundBUra@aol.com.

Re-label identification numbers in concert tuxedos. We have run into a technical glitch and need adults to help get the tuxes ready for distribution. Need about 4-5 people on Wed. (Oct. 7) evening from 5-8pm. This is a great time to volunteer in a small, important way. Contact Karen Kline (kkline3628@aol.com) if you can help.

========================

Tuxedo distribution will be posted as soon as possible. Look for notices through enews. Because of unforeseen complications, there will not be a great deal of time between distribution and the Fall concerts (Oct. 27 and 29). Many men may need to have their tux pants hemmed...please plan in advance for this to be done; this will be your responsibility. If you did not order a tuxedo shirt package and need a tux shirt, bow tie and cummerbund for the concert season, make sure you take care of this before the end of October. Proper concert wear is mandatory. Concert dresses will be distributed as soon as they arrive from the manufacturer.

Royal Oak High School Alma Mater

Royal Oak, our Alma Mater,
We lift our voices to you in praise.

As through many years we’re passing,
You’ll remain in our hearts always.

Your wise counsel and our friendships
Will stay with us during all our lives.

We’ll remember Royal Oak High School
As each one grows and each one strives.

An original compostition by
Marjorie Van Hoy, a native of Detroit, Michigan.

Royal Oak High School Fight Song

Stand and cheer for the Royal Oak Ravens
United, strong and true

Knowing our victory is close at hand,
We hail the silver, black and blue!

The Raven Spirit can’t be broken
We are superior through and through.

Fight, Fight, Fight! Raven Team take flight
We’ll march to victory with you!

Composed by ROHS Music Teacher David Jensen.
