Attendance Officer: Todd Noonan Attendance Secretary:
Absences Due to Suspension - Any class missed as a result of a student being placed on suspension is not recorded as an absence.
Appeal Process - If a student loses credit due to excessive absences and believes an exception should be made, a formal appeal may be made by the student to the Attendance Appeal Committee. Students Records and appeal will be reviewed and a decision will be mailed to the parent.
Conversion - Three unexcused tardies (5 minutes or less) will convert to one unexcused absence.
Credit Loss Due to Absences - Students who exceed ten (10) absences or accumulate five (5) or more unexcused absences may lose credit in each class this occurs.
Excused Absence - The following situations are considered excused absences: personal illness, family illness, family emergency, medical or dental appointments, religious holidays, funerals, legal appearances, or legitimate business purposes approved by the school. All other absences should be considered unexcused. All absences must be called within 48 hours and the phone line is accessible 24 hours a day (435-8500 - dial 1). You will be given a verification number for your call.
Late Arrival - Students who are late more than five (5) minutes of the first scheduled class must report to the Attendance Office for a "Permit-to-Enter". Students who fail to do so will be recorded as unexcused for any class missed. If a telephone call is received by the following morning, the absence can be excused. If a student is late 25 minutes or more with an excused admittance form, they will be marked absent excused. If the student is late 25 minutes or less with an excused admittance form, they will be marked tardy excused.
Make-up Work - It's the student’s responsibility of making up work missed within two days for each day of absence. In the case of lengthy absences or pre-arranged absences by parents, Administration will determine the amount of time the student has to make up his/her work. In the cases of tests, assessments, performances, projects, etc., no make-up time will be allowed.
Permit to Leave - A student must obtain a "Permit-to-leave" from the Attendance Office if leaving school after 7:25 a.m. for illness or appointments. Parent contact by telephone will be required in order to dismiss a student from school. Failure to follow this procedure will result in an unexcused absence for any class missed.
Re-Appeal Process - A review of the Attendance Appeal Committee's decision on a first appeal may be made to the building principal. To request a review of the Attendance Appeal's Committee decision, submit a request in writing with thorough documentation.
School-Sponsored Activities/Field Trips - Participation in school-sponsored activities shall not be counted as an absence.
Tardy - A student's arrival in class without an acceptable excuse, but within five minutes after the bell, shall be recorded as tardy. The tardy may be removed from the attendance record by the completion of a detention hour by the student. Three unexcused tardies to class shall be counted at one unexcused absence.
Unexcused Absence - Any absence that does not fall into the excused category or is not called in within 48 hours.
