IMPORTANT COMMUNITY DANGER ALERT

Recently I attend a ‘METH’ informational meeting at the Oakland County courthouse and was astounded to learn how incredibly dangerous this illegal substance is, not only to users, but to anyone who comes in contact with it's toxic waste.

If we want any hope of keeping methamphetamine and other dangerous drugs from infiltrating our community, our greatest defense will be to educate ourselves, our children, neighbors and friends and combine efforts to limit the tragic impact it will have.

Respectfully,

Candy Ather-Putman
President, Royal Oak High School PTSA
Member, Royal Oak Save Our Youth Task Force
Executive Assistant, Royal Oak Community Coalition

Press Release
Date: March 15, 2007
For immediate release: COMMUNITY DANGER ALERT

Methamphetamine, or METH, is a powerfully addictive stimulant that dramatically affects many areas of the central nervous system. Sometimes called "Poor Man's Cocaine", "Crystal Meth" and "Chalk", it's usage has spread from the West Coast throughout the Midwest including problematic use in the west side of Michigan.

METH is highly ADDICTIVE and DANGEROUS. It can cause paranoia, hallucinations and psychotic behavior. METH can also cause liver, kidney and heart damage - all of which can be fatal. Chronic users show signs of severe tooth decay and accelerated aging.

Everyone in the nearby vicinity of a methamphetamine user or METH lab is in danger. The toxic fumes and waste from METH will poison every surface and person near it.

Candy Ather-Putman, Royal Oak High School PTSA President and member of the Royal Oak Save Our Youth Task Force is on a personal mission. “My intention is not to create panic, but to inform as many people as possible of METH and it's terrifying onsequences. We must combine our efforts NOW if we want any hope of keeping it out of our schools, our homes and our community.”

To learn more about Methamphetamine, how to detect it, how to report it, and how you can protect our families and community from what is becoming an American epidemic, or to coordinate a presentation for your organization, contact Candy at Royal Oak Community Coalition by phone (248-588-5050 x 231), fax (248-588-2881).
