Royal Oak High School PTSA Meeting UNAPPROVED Minutes from September 25, 2006
Meeting called to order by President Candy Ather-Putman at 6:02 p.m.
Establishment of Quorum-Simple majority of the Executive Board, which would be 9.
- Approval of Minutes-Motion by Libby Benton to except the May 22, 2006 minutes as presented, second by Carole Mason, motion passed
- Treasurer’s Report-Madeleine Taylor presented the following for consideration: ROHS PTSA proposed budget from October 1 thru September 30, 2007; ROHS PTSA Summer 2006 Budge Report from 5/22/06 thru 9/25/2006 and ROHS PTSA Treasurer’s Report as of 9/25/2006; coming from committee no second needed, motion to pass the presented budgets passed
- Principal’s Report-Thomas Neville:
- Start of school year with great spirit and energy by both students & staff
- Introduced Joe Scheerer, Assistant Principal-joined us in the summer to help while Sarah Olson out, will be staying on for a few more weeks.
- Numbers for ROHS; 1761 were planned when the two HS merged, 1875 preliminary count, 1924 schedules planned for; 116 kids moved into the district; final numbers will be given after the State Student Count Day of September 27, 2006
- Homecoming- October 6 at 5:00pm will be the Homecoming Parade, Pep Rally will be held at school on that day during 5th hour with the Homecoming Court being introduced; Spirit week will begin Monday, October 2nd; Special Oak Tree planting will take place the morning of October 6th at around 10 or 11 a.m.-part of the HS Transition Team
- ACT will be given March 13th & March 14th
- Diploma Requirements-changes for all incoming 9th graders of 2007-2008 to required classes needed for graduation, more info to come
- Lockdowns-as required under ACT 207- schools must have 2 lockdowns per year as part of their overall safety plans
- Provided information on the following students who achieved “commended student” status in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program: Aimee Brown, Rachel Cox, Jennifer Dixon, Autumn Fromm, Kim Hunter & Lisa Peterson. Finalist are Daniel Call and Charles Mather
- Teachers Report-No Report
- Student Representative- Marta Jableckie & Kristi Andreski
- 1st ROHS Homecoming Dance to be held on October 7th from 7-11 p.m. here at ROHS, cost is $10 a person prior to dance, a couple dollars more at the dance. Guest passes for juniors and seniors will be decided by Mr. Neville; crowing of Homecoming King and Queen at 10 p.m. Funds from Homecoming and Raven Rally help support Student Council Activities
- The first Raven Rally held on Friday, September 8th raised just short of $2,000.00
- 1st session of the Model UN class had over 50 participants
- President’s Report-Candy Ather-Putman
- Thanks to all who attended this first meeting, all meetings from now on will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center unless otherwise communicated
- Website of our PTSA can be found at ROHSPTSA.org and thanks to Madeleine Taylor for the excellent job and upkeep on the site.
- Officer Training will be held at the October Presidents meeting on October 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Addams MS
- Michigan PTSA Training Academy will be held in Milford on Saturday, October 7th, see Candy if you would like to attend
- Save our Youth Task Force held a town meeting on Wednesday, September 20th and over 500 people attended, playbacks can be seen on local cable channel
- Committee Reports:
- Membership-have 599 members as of today.
- Parent Directory-working on having this done by HS conferences
- Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair-need 31 more crafters to sell out all available spaces. Would like to have a couple Senior volunteers who would March in the Royal Oak Holiday Parade with our Craft banner to advertise the craft show, see Mary Dixon if you or your senior can help. Cost of a table is $35
- Senior All Night Party 007-Last Monday night 9/11/2006 held the 1st Senior Parent Meeting, and we have 13 working committees that people can volunteer for. James Bond 007 is the theme, cost is $35
- Blood Services-Shari Anderson advised that the Fall Royal Oak PTSA Council Blood Drive is 11/08/2006 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 1st Congregational Church on Webster and Crooks in Royal Oak
- PTSA Newsletter-Cindy Murphy advised that 9/27/2006 is the deadline since we would like to have them done in time for Kelly Geyer to take them to the Inter-Club Lunch on 10/13/2006.
- Unfinished Business-None
- New Business:
- Raven Wear can be obtained by the ROHS Boosters at ROHSboosters.com or by going to the ROHSPTSA or ROHS websites and checking for a link
- Audrey Durnion, Past Treasurer for RO Dondero HS presented ROHS with a $6.80 final check from closing the DOHS PTSA checking account
- Late Start-questions about the late starts to be held once a month, first one coming up on 10/4/2006, school will start at 9:25 a.m. Concerns that information like this is not getting to the parents
- Question regarding Handicap accessibility at the ROHS Stadium-Tom Neville will look into
- Lockers for Seniors- Mr. Neville explained that they are in the process of putting all new lockers in at ROHS and that there are lockers available if a senior would like one, they just need to see Mr. Neville.
- School Board Liaison-Christine Hartwig thank Mr. Neville and Mr. Joe Scheerer for all their hard work in making sure the transition of the two HS into one went so smooth
- ROHS Tag Day for the Band & Orchestra raised over $11,000.00
Adjournment-Motion made by Jeanne Dolson to adjourn the meeting, second by Libby Benton, motion passed, meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
