Royal Oak High School PTSA Meeting UNAPPROVED Minutes from February 26, 2007
- Meeting called to order at 7:08 p.m.
- Approval of minutes from the January 22, 2007 meeting: motion by Carole Mason to accept the minutes as presented, 2nd by Patti Andreski, vote taken-motion passed
- Teacher Report- Mr. Decker:
- Student Council elections went well, Interviews from those candidates who ran to fill 4 appointed positions will be conducted over the next few weeks.
- Volleyball marathon will be held 3/16/07 & 3/17/07-packets went out to those who are interested and are available in the lower glass hall during lunch
- Student Report-None
- Principal Report- Mr. Greening:
- Thank you to those who put on the Founder’s Day dinner at the San Marino Club on February 5th
- Landscaping-over the next couple weeks will be meeting to look at options for funding and ideas for landscaping around the front of the school
- 3-12-07 there will be interview conducted for the new Royal Oak HS Principal position
- PTSA volunteers are needed to help shadow hall monitors, especially during lunch
- Senior Class of 2007 Graduation- to be held off ROHS grounds due to construction-to be held at Freedom Hill in Sterling Hts.
- Every Wednesday there is a meeting with department heads, in order to provide feedback to administration.
- School Board Liaison-Christine Hartwig:
- Bids have been received for the Mark Twain & Lincoln ECC properties; there will most likely be a decision on those properties at the next school board meeting on March 8th
- Career Choices-many questions regarding why this event is being held during the day-due to better participation from vendors and students
- Per Pupil Funding from the State of Michigan-a great deal of discussion is happening in Lansing regarding this issue to stay off anymore cuts to education
- Committee Reports:
- Membership-Libby Benton:
- Received a Certificate of Achievement at Royal Oak PTA Council’s Founder’s Day dinner.
- Currently have 775 members.
- Looking into Business Memberships at a cost of $50
- Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair-Mary Dixon:
- Fair to be held on November 17, 2007
- Getting ready to send out crafter applications
- Senior All Night Party-Judy Ahn-Ewing:
- Need Freshman, Sophomore & Junior parents to help during the time that senior parents will be attending graduation ceremonies that are being held offsite
- Next meeting will be held on March 5th at 7:00 p.m.
- We have sold 150 tickets for a student population of 451, cost is $45 through May 16th when it will be $55
- Scrip orders will be due on March 16th and items will be delivered on March 30th
- Will hope to have raffle tickets available at the next PTSA meeting in March
- PTSA Newsletter-Cindy Murphy:
- Mailed the current issue during break and should have received by now
- Deadline for next issue is 3-26-2007, this will be the last issue for the year
- Founder’s Day-Carole Mason: We were proud to have a few awards received by ROHS parents: Patti, Karen, Mena and of course our former Principal Tom Neville
- Health & Welfare-Clemens Wittekind:
- Part of a task force on getting info on sex education to our students
- Legislative Issue-presented by Clemens Wittekind:
- Attended Advocacy Day in Lansing on February 15th, the main topic of discussion was of course Per Pupil Funding
- Write letters to your representatives to encourage them to not institute cuts in education
- Presented resolution on Bullying Legislation-current Senate Bill 107 and House Bill 4162- see attached Resolution; Motion made to accept the resolution by Clemens Wittekind, 2nd by Patti Andreski, vote taken-motion passed
- Treasurer’s Report-Madeleine Villerot Taylor:
- Detroit Popcorn issue from last meeting was settled, the bill was paid to them on the day of the Last Bash at Dondero HS
- Reminding staff, PTSA members about all the line items we have in our budget
- Jim George gift, approved at last meeting was mailed out
- Senior All Night Party-Madeleine would like to see the PTSA provide funds to the Senior All Night Party- motion made by Madeleine to direct $5,000.00 from the PTSA General Fund to the Senior All Night Party line item; no second needed since coming from committee; discussion followed; vote taken-motion passed
- President’s Report-Candy Ather-Putman:
- Nominating Committee for 2007-2008 officers-volunteers were Cindy Murphy, Carole Mason and Jeanne Dolson
- Michigan PTSA Convention will be held here in Sterling Hts from May 3-May 5
- Parent Coffee Hours- February 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Board of Education offices
- Safe Our Youth Task Force is going strong-if interested in getting involved please see Candy
- Attended Meth awareness meeting-saw a DVD and would like to show prior to our next PTSA meeting and will start the DVD at 6:30 p.m.
- April 26th will provide informational meeting from 8-1:30 on social norms at Churchill
- Unfinished Business:
- 1. Detroit Popcorn Issue-see Treasurer’s Report #1 above
- New Business:
- Clemens Wittekind from Whittier Elementary-Whittier is offering a special commemorative t-shirt with the purchase of a Whittier PTA Membership for $15
- Libby Benton-where and when are Acorn & Herald Issue available: usually during the lunch hour
- Madeleine Villerot Taylor-Dialog Day issue-the number one issue that came out of Dialog Day was Climate at the HS-large discussion on this issue-ROHS administration is working on this issue
- Madeleine Villerot Taylor-Jamie Graham is a current 7th grader with a brother Sean in 10th grade here at ROHS. Jamie has been diagnosed with bone cancer. We as a PTSA cannot use PTSA funds to help, but, if anyone would like to make a private donation, Madeleine will be purchasing items from the script service that the Senior All Night Party has for things like gas.
- Blood Drive-RO PTA Council is still looking for a Blood Chair-the next blood drive is March 7th.
