Royal Oak High School PTSA Meeting UNAPPROVED Minutes from 11-27-2006
Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.
- Review of minutes from the 10-23-2006 meeting; motion by Patti Andreski to accept the minutes as amended, 2nd by Carole Mason, vote taken motion passed
- Committee Reports:
- Membership-Libby Benton states that ROHS has 695 members
- Parent Directory-Libby Benton states that the Parent Directory is with Dave Barber at the Print Shop. Candy mentioned that she would like to see the Parental Responsibility and Curfew laws by the City of Royal Oak put in the Parent Directory, Libby will look into this
- Student Directory-Barb Sparks states that this will be at the printer within a week
- Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair-Diana Anderson stated that we had 134 crafters and sold out all available spaces; NHS and the Varsity Club helped put lunches for vendors together and deliver; looks as if we have an estimated profit of $8.285.35
- Senior All Night Party-Judy Ahn Ewing states that they have sold 135 tickets at $45, purchase by check; there is a leadership committee meeting on 12-4-06; script orders are being accepted, for more information see Judy
- PTSA Newsletter-Cindy Murphy states that the deadline for the next issue will be November 28th
- Founder’s Day-Carole Mason advised that the Founder’s Day Dinner is at the San Marino Club on February 5, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $25
- Reflections-no report
- Treasurer’s Report-Madeleine Taylor: Madeleine advised that the ROPTA Council raised the Donald M Currie Scholarship dues from $450 to $500 and that we are $50 short on payment to Council and need to raise the line item $50 to $500, 2nd by Patti Andreski, vote taken motion passed
- Teacher’s Report-No one present
- Student Report-Student Council
- 12-4-06 till 12-15-06 can drive for Judson Center and the Salvation Army
- 1-4-07 till 1-11-07 Toy Drive
- Volleyball drive 3-16-07 & 3-17-07
- Student Council was at retreat 11-17-06 & 11-18-06
- NHS inducted 65 new NHS members, total of 109 members
- ROHS has an Inter-Club Council effort to collaborate with all the groups here at ROHS
- 11-29-06 ROHSMUN will be competing at the Great Lake Model UN Conference in Lansing
- Maria Jucha has issues of the ACORN available; Ad space available at the ACORN
- School Board Liaison- Chris Hartwig
- BOE is looking to move the school board elections from the current May date to November.
- WOAK programming started up again
- BOE is helping to sponsor Dialog Day to be held sometime after the 1st of the year
- President’s Report-Candy Ather-Putman
- MPTSA Convention will be held in Sterling Hts from 5-3-07 to 5-5-07 at the Sterling Inn
- Craft show thank you-goes out to all those who helped put on a very successful craft show

- Save Our Youth will be holding monthly coffee hours now through May
- Special Presentation to Mr. Thomas Neville, retiring principal of Royal Oak High School, f/k/a Kimball High School
- Principal’s Report-Mr. Thomas Neville
- This will be my last PTSA meeting after 35 years, thank you to all!
- New administration-there is a new administration in place at ROHS-Mr. Mike Greening will be Interim Principal, Sam Lynch is Assistant Principal and Angela Ashburn will be Interim Assistant Principal.
- Barnes & Noble Fundraiser for Royal Oak Community Coalition’s Youth Action Squad will take place on 12-9-06
- Jim Tuman, motivational speaker will be in for a 12-6-06 presentation to the kids
Old Business- Handicap Access at the football stadium- this issues was brought to the attention of the Building and Site committee and they are aware and looking at this issue
New Business- Mary Smith talked about the Varsity Club holding a Fundraiser for the CP Games & Special Olympics; selling poinsettias for $20, orders by 12-7-06 with delivery 12-18-06
